The Pilates Method of Body Conditioning was developed by Joseph H Pilates in the early 1920's and was first called Contrology. Original Pilates exercises utilize specifically designed exercise apparatus created by Joseph Pilates.
Genuine Pilates exercises focus on co-contraction of deep abdominal muscles in concert with low back, pelvic floor, buttocks, and inner thigh muscles. The resulting physical symphony creates a solid center of power from which emanates strength, balance and vitality.
By teaching the body to move in a functionally intelligent and balanced manner, joints display a greater range of movement with more freedom. The results justify Pilates exercise's growing popularity with dancers, golfers, athletes, musicians, artists and anyone else who wants to feel good!
Classically trained Pilates teachers must have taken 75 one hour exercise sessions prior to entrance into the program. They must complete more than 200 hours of lecture and more than 600 hours of apprentice work teaching clients at all levels. Written and practical examinations with case studies to modify are required at each 200 hour increment. Teachers in training are required to complete most of their training in NYC with master teachers.
The goal of Authentic Pilates Certified Instructors is to teach and maintain the original integrity of Joseph Pilates' work. There are specific exercises taught in a specific order and manner to ensure safety, results and increased vitality!
